Should I replace wooden windows with uPVC?

There are many benefits to opting for uPVC over timber for window frames. The main advantage is the maintenance required for uPVC windows is significantly lower than what is required for timber windows. A wooden window needs regular sanding, sealing, painting and is susceptible to rot. uPVC windows don’t have these issues and are maintained easily by cleaning regularly with a soft cloth and soapy water.

A quality uPVC window provides a high level of insulation and security, providing a saving on your existing heating bills and peace of mind knowing your windows act as a deterrent for potential intruders.

What is the life expectancy of uPVC?

uPVC windows, if taken care of correctly, can last up to 35 years. With their insulation properties, these windows can help keep the heat within your home, providing protection against the elements, and reducing your energy bills.

Whilst to the untrained eye this looks like a fault with the windows, every uPVC window has a drainage hole within the frame to allow water to run off safely. What not to use on uPVC

Your windows are one of the first things that people notice about your home, so keeping your uPVC windows clean and at their best is essential. Cleaning uPVC windows couldn’t be simpler and you don’t need any special cleaning solutions for this. The best thing to use is warm soapy water, with a sponge and cloth. Do not use a scouring pad, wire wool, Brillo pad or anything that will permanently scratch and damage the surface of the window. Abrasive materials or liquids should not be used for cleaning of the window. Use a light pressure when cleaning and only use softer cloths and sponges to ensure that your windows stay at their best throughout their lifespan.

Do not use bleach, white spirits or acetone as it will permanently damage the protective layer on the windows. These materials may permanently remove and damage the windows.
